Ernest Tubb 'The Texas Troubadour' was one of the Country Music giants of the 40's and 50's and sold over 20 million records. Hank Williams is a bigger legend but for five years before Hank ever recorded and for a decade after his death, Ernest Tubb ranked as the ultimate Honky-Tonk vocalist and stylist. Also known to all real country fans from his famous Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville, which he opened in 1947 (and is still going strong today), his biggest crossover pop hits were Slipping Around and Blue Christmas (covered by Chris Isaak). In the 60's he was paired with Loretta Lynn for three duet albums. Other duet partners have been Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Chet Atkins and Charlie Daniels. Interest in Ernest's recordings have continued since his death in 1984 with re-issues from Rounder, Rhino, Stetson and Bear Family, amongst others.
